FORSYTH, WILLIAM
- Born: 1798? Died: 1888?
Chief engineer to the Office of Public Works, Dublin, 1863-1874. William Forsyth had entered the employment of the engineer's department of Office of Public Works at least by 1849(1) and is almost certainly the same person as the W. Forsyth, who wrote reports on the drainage of the flooded lands in Loughs Oughter and Gowna, and River Erne drainage and navigation district, on the drainage of the Leesborough district in Co. Cavan, and on the drainage of the flooded lands in the Lough Erne navigation district, published in Dublin in 1846,1847 and 1849 respectively.(2) By 1863 he had risen to the position of chief engineer. He was succeeded by his assistant engineer, ROBERT MANNING , in 1874. He is probably the William Forsyth, CE, who died on 14 September 1888 at the age of ninety and was buried in Mount Jerome cemetery.(3)
