Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Civil engineer, of Dublin and Co. Wicklow. Patrick Joseph Foley is described as a nephew of Patrick Foley, Roman Catholic Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin.(1) He studied engineering at University College, Dublin, and obtained the BE degree from the Royal University of Ireland in 1915.(2) By 1922 he had been appointed an assistant county surveyor for Co. Wicklow,(3) a position which he held until 1956 or later.(4)

Foley was also engaged in private practice in Dublin. In about 1919 he formed a partnership with the architect JAMES WILLIAM O'SULLIVAN JAMES WILLIAM O'SULLIVAN , which, as FOLEY & O'SULLIVAN FOLEY & O'SULLIVAN , appears to have lasted until circa 1932. Foley continued to practise on his own in Dublin until at least 1940. His name appears in Thom's Directory until 1948.
