Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Measurer, of Cork, who measured work at the barrack in Castleisland, Co. Kerry, in 1757. He is described by Thomas Eyre in a letter to Secretary Hamilton of 5 April 1762 as 'a man of as approved skill in building and measurement of Work, as any in that part of the Kingdom'.(1) Much earlier, circa 1740, he had prepared an estimate for work on a monument in Youghal, Co. Cork.(2) Is he the same person as the Nicholas Halfpenny described by Eileen Harris as a mathematician and gardener and a kinsman of WILLIAM HALFPENNY WILLIAM HALFPENNY (3) or the Nicholas Halfpenny of Cork, born circa 1716, who married Alice Curtain in Cork in 1741?(4)
