Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Scottish engineer. Alexander Easton worked as an assistant to THOMAS TELFORD  THOMAS TELFORD as resident engineer for the western district of the Caledonian Canal until the western and eastern districts were united under the management of a single resident engineer in 1823. In about 1824, on Telford's recommendation,(1) he was appointed inspector of works for the prison at Portlaoise, Co. Laois. He did not remain long in Ireland, subsequently returning to Britain to work for Telford in Wales.
