Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

English surveyor and architect, active in the mid- to late eighteenth century, who also worked in Baden, Germany, for whom see Sarah Bendall, ed., Dictionary of Land Surveyors and Local Map-Makers of Great Britain and Ireland 1530-1850 (2nd edition, 1997), I, 76. According to Mrs Dorothy Bentley Smith,(1) he may have had Irish connections; she thinks that he was the only child by the second marriage of his father, William Burdett, that he may have been brought up around Dublin, and that he could have been apprenticed to RICHARD CASTLE. RICHARD CASTLE.
