Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer. John Thomas Crosthwait, son of Samuel Crosthwait, was born in Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow, circa 1840, and admitted to Trinity College, Dublin, in 1858.(1) He obtained the Licence in Civil Engineering in 1861.(2) He worked under JOHN FOWLER  JOHN FOWLER on the St John's Wood Railway and was engaged on railway surveys in Egypt before returning to Ireland and setting up in private practice in Banagher, Co. Offaly. He later lived or worked in Switzerland. He died in 1889.(3) He is probably the John T. Crosthwait who married Emma Lees in 1874.(4)
