Engineer. Robert Collins was consulting engineer - as distinct from city surveyor - for Derry City from 1866 or earlier until 1874. He was also engineer to the Londonderry Port and Harbour Commissioners and to the Londonderry & Lough Swilly Railway Company. In or soon after 1874 he gave up all three positions on being appointed engineer of the Belfast & Northern Counties Railway. He was succeeded in the three positions and in his general practice by his former pupil CHARLES EDWARD STEWART. H CHARLES EDWARD STEWART. H e remained engineer to the Belfast & Northern Counties Railway until 1888, when he was succeeded by BERKELEY DEANE WISE. BERKELEY DEANE WISE.
In addition to Charles Edward Stewart, Collins's pupils and assistants included FRANCIS GEORGE HOPKIRK. FRANCIS GEORGE HOPKIRK.
