Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect with the Board of Public Works. John Cockburn was born on 8 May 1829.(1) He joined the staff of the Board of Works on 18 July 1859.(2) He became a district clerk of works (later styled assistant surveyor of buildings) and was based in Omagh from 1865 or earlier until 1875 or later and in Derry by 1883 or earlier until 1894 or later.(3) He is possibly the same person as the John Coburn who is listed in the Derry Almanac from 1888 to 1892 as an architect practising from Florence Terrace, Derry.
