COCKBURN, THOMAS BAKER *
- Born: 1812ca? Died: 1899
Engineer, of Dublin. Thomas Baker Cockburn was a son of GILBERT COCKBURN , a brother of GILBERT COCKBURN and a grandson of THOMAS BAKER . He may have worked in the family building firm for a time after his father's death,(1) but according to his brother's obituary in the Irish Builder, he was also employed by the Royal Engineers.(2) The English census of 1881 records a sixty-nine-year old Thomas B. Cockburn, retired and living in Elsham Road, Holland Park, London, with his family of nine daughters and one son. His children's birthplaces indicate that he had been living in Birmingham between 1859 and 1862 and in Dun Laoghaire between 1863 and 1875. If this was indeed Thomas Baker Cockburn, by 1896 he had returned to Dublin, where he remained until his death at the end of 1899.(3)
