Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

English sculptor, for whom see Rupert Gunnis, Dictionary of Bristish Sculptors 1660-1851 (revised edition, 1968). For Ireland he designed and executed the memorials to Arthur St Leger, 1st Viscount Doneraile at Doneraile, Co. Cork (1759) and to Robert FitzGerald, 19th Earl of Kildare (d. 1744) in Christ Church, Cathedral, Dublin,(1) and the statue of the Duke of Cumberland, erected circa 1747, which was formerly on top of the pillar in Emmet Square, Birr, Co. Offaly.(2) The General Advertiser of 16 September 1746 carried the report that 'a curious fine monument is finished by Mr Cheere, and sent over for Ireland to be erected to the memory of the Right Hon. Theobald Viscount Mayo'; this monument has not been traced.(3)
