Nature: New school consisting of central building with two large wings extending to rear. Portico supported by 2 substantial columns (Ionic tetrastyle portico was originally intended.) Architect: SJ. Contractor: John Lynn. FS of institute laid 11 Sep 1839. School opened 1840. Also gate lodge. (Institute burnt out, 1973.)
