Nature: Cruciform Gothic. Madden's plan selected and work begun on foundations, 1828. Work resumed, 1831. FS laid, 10 Aug 1831. For Dean James O'Shaughnessy. Dedicated 26 Feb 1843, but still in unfinished state, with tower & spire unexecuted. Loan of £200 made by Board of Works for completing 'chapel', 1843. Subscription list opened, 1851. Work continued by J.J. McCarthy.
