Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Civil engineer. Edward Byrne, who was probably a son of Joseph James Byrne, surveyor and valuator of 10, Lower Mount Street, Dublin, studied mathematics for two years before serving a pupilage with George Woodhouse, who was then engaged on the Shannon Navigation between Killaloe and Drumsna. He carried out testing on portions of the Waterford & Limerick and Dublin, Wicklow & Wexford Railways and then spent four years working for Woodhouse as contractor's engineer on the Holyhead & Chester Railway. He subsequently worked on the Liverpool, Ormskirk & Preson Railway.
