Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Sculptor, son of Francis Jones, an Irish-born monumental sculptor living in West Hartlepool, Co. Durham, for whom see Theo Snoddy, Dictionary of Irish Artists: 20th Century (1st edition, 1996), 146-148.  Francis William Jones (late Doyle-Jones) produced several memorial statues for Ireland: to John Mandeville at Mitchelstown, Co. Cork (1906), to Thomas W. Croke at Thurles, Co. Tipperary (1922), to Canon P.A. Sheehan at Doneraile, Co. Cork, and to Cardinal Patrick O'Donnell at St Eunan's cathedral, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal (1929). His last Irish monument, unveiled in 1938, the year of his death, was a colossal six-metre tall granite statue of Saint Patrick at Saul, Co. Down.
