Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Glass manufacturers of Smethwick, Birmingham, England, founded by Robert Lucas Chance in 1824 and family owned for six generations. As well as becoming the largest plate and window glass manufacturer in Great Britain, responsible for glazing the Crystal Palace, Chance Brothers also produced lighthouse equipment, optical lenses, and decorative stained and painted glass. For Ireland the company made the stained glass for a six-light memorial window in the south aisle of St Mary's CI church in Ardee, Co. Louth, in 1866.(1)
