Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Builder, engaged in the construction of Convoy House, Co. Donegal, for Robert Montgomery in 1806-1808. The building accounts record regular payments to 'Mr Taylor' throughout the project.(1) These include a payment of £6.16s.6d made on 20 January 1807 'by agreemt. for rent of his house to Js. Mt-gom[ery?]', which suggests that he lived nearby. Possibly the same person as the George Taylor who married Jane Gregg in Raphoe on 14 July 1779.(2) A 'Young Taylor' is also referred to in the accounts as having been paid £1 for 'going to Derry' (3 June 1806).
