Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Gardener sent from London by the eighth Earl of Abercorn in 1746 to clear, plant and enclose the grounds at Baronscourt, Co. Tyrone. Although he started well, Broomfield fell in with a bad set of drinking companions in Newtownstewart and was married by a 'Popish Priest' to a local girl named Fergie in 1747 or 1748. He had left the Earl's employment by 1750, when he was looking for work and 'in distress'. He appears to have had some property in Scotland which he sold at this time.
