Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architectural sculptor, of Lambeth, London, specialising in ecclesiastical work, for whom see A. Mitchell, Thomas Earp, Master of Stone (1990). His first work in Ireland, dating from circa 1860, appears to have been the carving of the War Memorial in Tralee, designed by George Hallam. Subsequently he carved the altars and reredos for St Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic church at Whitehouse, Co. Antrim,(2) and the pulpit designed by GEORGE EDMUND STREET  GEORGE EDMUND STREET for Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin.(3)  His business appears to have continued after his death as Earp & Hobbs;  the latter were responsible for the stone carving in St Saviour's Church of Ireland church, Arklow, Co. Wicklow, which was completed in 1899.(4)
