Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect and builder, of The Mills, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny, who placed an advertisement describing himself as such in George Henry Bassett, Kilkenny City and County (1884), 189. John Walker was active from the 1870s until the 1890s, and was the contractor for WILLIAM HAGUE' WILLIAM HAGUE' s Church of the Sacred Heart at Stradbally, Co. Laois, built between 1893 and 1896.(1)

Nature: JW architect and contractor for convent and schools. Design suggested by Mother St Croix. FS blessed 25 Mar 1877. Plans approved and work initiated by Feb 1878. Partly destroyed by fire started by dismissed worker on site, Feb 1879.
