Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Master builder, of Limerick. According to his 1911 census return, Michael Gough was born in Limerick in 1855 or 1856. He does not appear in the  later nineteenth-century Limerick trades directories nor is any work by him ecorded in the Irish Builder until 1909.  In 1901 he brought a complaint against seven members of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, alleging that they had forcibly abducted one of his workmen.(1) At the time of the 1911 census he had been married for thirty-one years and had three surviving children, one of whom, fifteen-year-old Thomas, described in the return as 'Architect & Builder Student', appears to have succeeded to his father's business.
