Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer. Phineas Howell, a son of Phineas Howell, secretary to the Dublin Steam Packet Company and later agent to the General Emigration Company, was born in Dublin circa 1834. He was admitted to Trinity College, Dublin, on 11 October 1853 at the age of nineteen and obtained the BA degree and the Diploma in Civil Engineering in 1858.(1) He is probably the P. Howell who was resident engineer to the Belfast & Northern Counties Railway from 1869 until 1873.(2)
