Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

In 1875 a 'Mr Wrafter' caused considerable indignation among the architects who had taken part in a competition for a design for the glebe house at Portlaoise, Co. Laois. Wrafter, who was 'in no way connected with the [architectural] profession', subverted the competition by offering a free plan to the committee, which was accepted.(1) He can possibly be identified as John Wrafter, of Derry House, Rosenallis, and Portlaoise, who was a magistrate for Co. Laois at the time.
