Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer, of Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, and elsewhere. Bernard Joseph Kilbride, who was born on 15 August 1890,(1) studied engineering at University College, Dublin, obtaining the BE degree in 1916.(2) He was appointed county surveyor for Co. Longford in August 1924 but resigned at the end of January 1927.(3) In November 1927 he became acting county surveyor for Co. Offaly,(4) holding the post until the appointment of THOMAS STANISLAUS DUGGAN  THOMAS STANISLAUS DUGGAN on 10 September 1928. He was appointed borough surveyor of Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, on 1 October 1931 and held the post until 1955.(5)

The Irish Architectural Archive holds a design for the reconstruction of the Market House at Granard, Co. Longford, signed 'B.J. Kilbride, BA, BE' and dated July 1923 (Workhouse Drawings Collection, Acc. 85/138.102). This may indicate that Bernard Joseph Kilbride was a connection of Frederick J. Kilbride, who was an assistant county surveyor for Co. Longford in 1922.(5)
