Architect, of Portadown, Co. Armagh. James Walby was a son of James Walby, superintending engineer of the postal service in Dublin and later in Belfast. He was born in Dublin and educated at the High School before becoming a pupil of WILLIAM BATT [2]  WILLIAM BATT [2] in Belfast. According to his obituary he then worked in Dundalk and Galway. He was employed by the Board of Public Works as a temporary clerk of works to supervise the erection of Lisburn Post Office in 1892 and Portadown Post Office in 1895-96.(1) It may have been at this time that that he decided to settle in Portadown, where he practised as an architect until at least 1915. He died in a Lisburn nursing home after a long illness in the summer of 1921.
