Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

English architect, for whom see Directory of British Architects 1834-1914 (RIBA, 2001), II, 531. During the 1830s Salvin was commissioned to remodel Turtulla House, Co. Tipperary, for Valentine Maher, but his plans were taken over and altered by WILLIAM TINSLEY WILLIAM TINSLEY , 1837-1838.(1) Both Salvin and WILLIAM BURN  WILLIAM BURN were credited in their obituaries with the design of Bangor Castle, Co. Down, completed in 1852, and it has been suggested by David Walker that Burn might have started the building and Salvin finished it.(2)  Salvin was also commissioned to design the Royal Cork Yacht Club House at Cobh circa 1852, displacing JOHN BENSON  JOHN BENSON who had already prepared designs for the building.(3)
