Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Dundalk(?), Co. Louth. James Jones was employed by John Madden of Hilton Park, Co. Monaghan, to design an additional wing to the house (the nursery wing). Jones may also have been responsible for the stables and the adjoining colonnaded 'Rides'. He also designed Neptune Villa (later Ballygihen House) for Madden at Sandycove, Co. Dublin, and later additions in 1838. A letter about these additions from Jones to Col. Madden written on 24 July 1838 is addressed from Stradone, Co. Cavan, which suggests that he may also have worked at Stradone House.(1) Possibly the father or grandfather of JAMES JONES [2]. JAMES JONES [2].
