Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer, of Belfast Corporation Gasworks. Robert Sharpe was born on 9 November 1848 and served his apprenticeship with Laidlaw & Sons, gas and water engineers and contractors, of Glasgow. He then worked under William Foulis on gasworks in Glasgow and Spain. In 1879 he was appointed assistant engineer at the Belfast Gasworks and in 1907 succeeded JAMES STELFOX  JAMES STELFOX as engineer. He died on 8 May 1910 'after undergoing a serious surgical operation, performed in the hope of saving his life'.
