Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect and engineer, of Waterford. Thomas Scully was born on 23 September 1869 and educated at Clonmel Grammar School and Trinity College Dublin. He received his scientific training at Trinity and at the Royal College of Science, obtaining the BE degree. He served his pupilage with James Prior and was for two years an assistant engineer on the staff of the Waterford & Limerick Railway Company. In 1898 he set up in private practice as an engineer and architect in Waterford. According to his application for membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers of Ireland, written in 1913, his architectural practice was by then a large one; he had 'designed & carried out many Bank buildings, churches & private residences in S of Ireland'. He died in 1946 or 1947.(1)
