RUSH, JAMES P.
- Born: - Died: -
Architect, of Belfast, Lisburn, Co. Antrim, and Dungannon, Co. Tyrone, active from 1926 or earlier until 1958 or later. James Rush appears to have started his career as an architect in Belfast. By the summer of 1936 his address is given as the Courthouse, Lisburn;(1) however he is not named in the directories as a town or county official - possibly he was an assistant to the town surveyor, ROBERT EDMUND LEAR CLARKE - and all the works by him which are recorded in the Irish Builderfrom 1935 onwards are in Co. Tyrone rather than in Co. Antrim.(2) In 1935 he was appointed architect for several schools in the Dungannon area by the Dungannon Regional Education Committee,(3) and by the late summer of 1943 he had a Dungannon address.(4) In 1944 he was appointed town surveyor for Dungannon in succession to JOHN NEWELL. (5) Though based in Dungannon, he appears to have retained an office in Lisburn. In 1948 he had a partner named Mason(6) but by 1950 was again working on his own.(7)
RSUA: associate member from 1936(8) or earlier until 1962 or later.(9)
