Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer and architect of Ballycastle, Co. Antrim, active from the 1880s onwards.   Thomas J. O'Neill, who, according to the 1911 census, was born in Co. Antrim in 1867 or 1868, trained under his father, John O'Neill, an assistant county surveyor for Co. Antrim. He then spent three years in London with T.W. Neill, AMICE, before returning to Belfast, where he worked for the county surveyor for Co. Antrim, JOHN HENRY BRETT JOHN HENRY BRETT , for JOHN JOSEPH MCDONNELL JOHN JOSEPH MCDONNELL , and for the engineer to the Belfast Water Commissioners, LUKE LIVINGSTON MACASSEY LUKE LIVINGSTON MACASSEY , on the Silent Valley water supply scheme. He also practised independently. Like his father, he became an assistant county surveyor for Co. Antrim. He was also engineer to Ballyclare Urban District Council, to Ballycastle Union Board of Guardians and to and Ballycastle Rural and Urban District Councils.(1). He died after a 'lengthy' career at Ballypatrick, Ballycastle, in 1936.  According to his 1911 census return, he married in 1910 or 1911.
