Selected: O'HARA, WILLIAM [2]
| Born: - |
| Died: - |
Architect and engineer, of 2 Percy Place, Dublin, listed as such in Wilson's Dublin Directory for 1836. O'Hara appears to have been a protégé of Matthew Barrington of Glenstal Castle, Co. Limerick. He proposed a design for Glenstal in 1833, which is still at the house,(1) and he also signed an undated panoramic watercolour elevation of Barrington's Hospital, Limerick (designed by FREDERICK DARLEY[2] in 1829) with the adjacent Mont de Pieté, which was built at Matthew Barrington's expense in 1837.(2) Whether O'Hara designed the Mont de Pieté himself is not clear. He is presumably the person of the same name who was employed by the Shannon Commissioners from 1835 to 1839.(3)
A William O'Hara, Esq., of Sandymount, was one of the two supervisors of works to the Paving Board from 1839 or earlier until 1847 or later.(4) Two plans by William O'Hara, CE, for a proposed new road between Tritonville and Serpentine Avenue, Sandymount, are among the Pembroke Estate papers in the National Archives.(5) A Mr O'Hara was an entrant in the Kingsbridge station competition of 1845.(6)
Address: 2 Percy Place, Dublin, 1836; Newgrove House, Sandymount, 1844.(7)
See WORKS; see also WILLIAM O'HARA [1] , who may be the same person.
