MCINTYRE, JOHN
- Born: 1857/58 Died: 1935
'CE', of Letterkenny. John McIntyre was born in Culmore, Co. Derry in 1857 or 1858. His early career is not recorded, but from at least 1899 until his death he lived and worked in Letterkenny. He designed several Presbyterian churches in Cos. Donegal, Tyrone and Derry, and was also the architect for the Donegal Mental Hospital at Letterkenny . In 1922 he was appointed architect for the new council housing scheme by Letterkenny UDC,(1) but the appointment was probably not sanctioned by the Local Government Board, which required that all such council housing schemes should be placed in the hands of fully qualified architects.(2) Well-known in the locality as an expert witness, he died at home aged seventy-seven early in 1935. He married his wife, Rebecca, who kept a shop in Letterkenny, in 1887 or 1888 and had three daughters.
Address: 1 Main Street, Letterkenny, 1911.
