Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer and architect, of Dublin. According to the 1911 census, George Tighe Moore, a native of Clonee, Co. Meath, was born in 1869 or 1870. He entered the Royal College of Science, graduating with a Diploma in Engineering in 1891. He then spent two years in the office of the city engineer, SPENCER HARTY SPENCER HARTY , moving to the office of the City Architect, CHARLES JAMES MCCARTHY CHARLES JAMES MCCARTHY , in 1893.   In 1895 he was elected McCarthy's assistant.(1) He remained in the employment of the Corporation until September 1898, when he resigned and set up in private practice at 184 Great Brunswick Street.  Soon afterwards he formed a brief partnership with FRANCIS XAVIER AYLWARD FRANCIS XAVIER AYLWARD , practising as MOORE & MOORE & amp; AYLWARD  AYLWARD from circa 1901 to circa 1903.(2) In By 1905 he had been appointed permanent engineer to Rathdrum District Council at a salary of £200 per annum(3) and he was also architect and engineer to Rathdown Union Board of Guardians. He was appointed architect for major works at the Portrane and Richmond lunatic asylums in 1908(4) and for a large housing scheme at Arklow, Co. Wicklow, in 1910.(5) His practice appears to have consisted chiefly of public works - hospitals, workhouse improvements, dispensaries and housing - and commercial buildings.

Moore was for a time a member of Dublin Corporation. He died, unexpectedly and comparatively young on 28 August 1912, after an operation for peritonitis.   He had been married to a daughter of the Sub-Sheriff of Dublin, John Clancy, but was a widower at the time of the 1911 census, when he was living in a boarding house in Sandycove. His works in hand were taken over by CYRIL KEEFE  CYRIL KEEFE and JOHN JOSEPH ROBINSON JOHN JOSEPH ROBINSON , who practised as G.T. MOORE, KEEFE & KEEFE & amp; ROBINSON ROBINSON (6) until about 1916.(7)  He was succeeded as architect and engineer to Rathdown Board of Guardians by PATRICK HARNETT MCCARTHY. PATRICK HARNETT MCCARTHY.
