Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Assistant county surveyor for Co. Down from the late 1850s until 1905 or 1906. James Mitchell, who was born circa 1837, was an assistant county surveyor 'for over half a century' before his retirement in 1905 or 1906. He was acting county surveyor in the interval between the departure of PETER CHALMERS COWAN  PETER CHALMERS COWAN in January 1899 and the appointment of JAMES HERON  JAMES HERON the following August. He died at his home, Derryogue, Kilkeel, Co. Down, on 16 April 1909 in his seventy-second year.
