Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Cork and Waterford, active from circa 1896 to 1924. According to one source,(1) Alleyn Lovell, son of John Lovell and his wife Jenetta O'Malley, was born in Cork on 12 May 1867;  in his 1911 census return, however, Lovell gives his age as forty-one, indicating a birth year of 1869 or 1870.  He was apprenticed to KEARNS DEANE ROCHE  KEARNS DEANE ROCHE and JOHN D. EVANS  JOHN D. EVANS in Cork.   He qualified as an art master in the South Kensington Schools in 1891 and set up in practice as an architect in Cork in 1896, later moving to Waterford.   He was responsible for the design of various developments in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois, for the fifth Viscount de Vesci.(2) He died, 'a comparatively young man', in 1924;(3) at the time of the 1911 census he was unmarried.
