Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Belfast.   James Gray Lindsay, who was born circa 1870, was apprenticed to JOHN JOSEPH MCDONNELL  JOHN JOSEPH MCDONNELL of Belfast.  He was in practice in Belfast from circa 1895 until at least April 1904, when he applied unsuccessfully for membership of the RIAI.   Works recorded in the Irish Builder are chiefly domestic. In 1899 he won a prize for designing houses for the newly-laid out Sans Souci estate off the Malone Road in Belfast.(1) He also designed the Burlington Hotel in Bangor, Co. Down.(2)
