KIRWAN, MICHAEL C.*
- Born: 1792 Died: 1867
Stone cutter and marble mason, of Dublin, active from at least 1837. In Pettigrew & Oulton's Dublin Almanac for 1847 he appears in partnership with Andrew Kirwan. His altar for the Franciscan Church in Henry Street, Limerick, was described in the Catholic Directory for 1848 as 'one of the most splendid pieces of Irish manufacture, equal to any of the kind in Rome, at one fourth the cost'. He died 31 March 1867 and was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery on 2 April. His obituary was published in the Freeman's Journal, 1 April 1867, and in May his widow placed advertisements in the same paper which announced that she was carrying on her late husband's business.(1)
