Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Carpenter and builder, of Dublin, listed as such in Wilson's Dublin Directory for the years 1832-34 and 1836, with an address at 48 Bolton Street. The same address is given in the Post Office Directory for 1839 but in the 1844 edition it has changed to Leinster Road, Rathmines. By 1853 Johnston's house in Leinster Road had been numbered 93, and he was sharing it with RICHARD JOHNSTON RICHARD JOHNSTON , who was probably his son, and a Henry Johnston, surveyor, who may have been another son and is possibly the same person as HENRY JOHNSTON. HENRY JOHNSTON. (1) George Johnston disappears from the directories between 1857 and 1863.

(1) This may be the Henry Johnston, who was surveyor to the Rathmines Township Commissioners; although this Henry Johnston is recorded separately at 64 Leinster Road in the same directory, it is possible that his name was mistakenly allowed to remain at the 93 Leinster Road address; a connection with Richard Johnston is suggested by the fact that Henry Johnston, the township surveyor and Richard Johnston were living next door to each other from 1862 or 1863.
