Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Assistant county surveyor for Co. Waterford, from 1900 or earlier until 1949 or later.(1) George Hastings Jephson, son of George Hastings Jephson, civil engineer, and his wife Mary Rosalind Nicholson Shearman, was born in Waterford on 11 July 1874. He was a student of the Royal University of Ireland and, from 1893 to 1895, a pupil of WILLIAM EDMUND L'ESTRANGE DUFFIN WILLIAM EDMUND L'ESTRANGE DUFFIN , the county surveyor for Co. Waterford. In October 1895 he set up in private practice as an engineer in Waterford, employed by Boards of Guardians and District Councils on sewerage, drainage, water supply and building work. By 1900 he had become an assistant county surveyor for Co. Waterford, a post which he retained until 1949 or later. He died on 10 April 1953. He had married Winifred Rose Elliott on 5 May 1915 in Waterford Cathderal.
