Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Dublin and New York. Michael J. Hynes, who was born in 1822, emigrated to the United States at some point in the decade following the death of his eldest child, Mary, who was buried in Prospect Cemetery, Glasnevin, in October 1844. In Dublin he is said to have 'worked on the staircase in the Bank of Ireland and in the private chapel of the Duke of Leinster's town house'. He settled in New York, where he worked on the ceiling of St Patrick's Cathedral and designed some private houses. He died in New York in 1896, aged seventy-four.
