William Hunter is described as 'architect to the Church Commissioners' in 1870, when he superintended the building of the new church at Castlerock, Co. Derry, to designs by FREDERICK WILLIAM PORTER. FREDERICK WILLIAM PORTER. (1) A site plan by him, dated 1868, for St James's Church, Belfast, is in the Representative Church Body Library, as are his sketches of the existing seating arrangements in the churches at Banagher, Co. Derry, Ramelton, Co. Donegal, and Mullaghdun, Co. Fermanagh, all dated 1869.(2) He is possibly the same person as the William Hunter, of Rathmines Cottage, Coleraine, who built two houses in Dunluce Terrace, Portrush in 1856-1857, which he offered for sale in the Belfast News Letter on 27 August 1857.
