Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer with the Belfast & Northern Counties Railway - later the Midland Railway (Northern Counties Committee) - from 1879 until circa 1923.   According to the 1911 census, Francis George Hopkirm was born in Belfast in 1862 or 1863.  In 1878 he entered the office of ROBERT COLLINS ROBERT COLLINS , engineer to the Belfast & Northern Counties Railway and, after a year as Collins's pupil, spent a further six years as his assistant. In 1889 he became principal assistant to Collins's successor, BERKELEY DEANE WISE BERKELEY DEANE WISE . He remained in the service of the company until about 1923, after which he appears to have been in independent practice for a short time. He died in 1957 or 1958.(1)  At the time of the 1911 census he had been married to his wife, Annie, for nineteen years and had two sons.
