Architect and engineer, of Cork. William Henry Hill, son of WILLIAM HENRY HILL [1]  WILLIAM HENRY HILL [1] and his wife Mary Anne (née Tomkins) was born in Cork on 24 June 1867.(1) He studied engineering for three years at Queen's College, Cork,(2) and then served a pupilage with his father who took him into partnership in 1899, when the practice was renamed W.H. HILL & SON. After his father's death in 1911, he carried on the business under the same name. In 1919 he took HENRY WILLIAM FLANAGIN  HENRY WILLIAM FLANAGIN into partnership, practising as HILL SON & HILL SON & amp; FLANAGIN. FLANAGIN. (3) The partnership with Flanagin lasted until at least 1922(4) but had probably come to an end by 1924.(5)

Following the death of ROBERT FOGERTY  ROBERT FOGERTY in 1907, Hill was appointed diocesan architect for the Province of Munster,(6) a position which he held for over thirty years. He succeeded his father as architect to the Cork Lunatic Asylum. By 1902 he had become engineer to the Cork & Muskerry Light Railway.(7) He was consulting engineer to Cork Rural District Council from 1905 or earlier(8) and to Youghal Urban District Council by 1910.(9) Like other members of his family, Hill had a keen interest in antiquities and was an active member of the Cork Archaeological and Historial Society. According to the obituary in the Irish Builder, he retired from practice 'some time' before his death, which occurred on 31 October 1941. He was married to Stella ?, by whom he had several children, none of whom followed him into the business, which was carried on by his partner John Wilkinson.(10)
