Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer, with the Royal Engineer Department, active in the 1850s. While Samuel Butler was stationed at Athlone circa 1855, he supervised drainage and other improvements at the Quay Road near the Barracks. In about 1859 he moved to the Curragh 'to assist in the formation of an Encampment for 10,000 troops'.(1) A civil engineer named Samuel Butler of 77 Townsend Street, Dublin, appears in the classified section of Thom's directories for 1860, 1861 and 1862.
