Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer,  of Co. Down, active from the 1890s to the 1930s. According to the 1911 census George Hamilton Fleming was born in Co. Derry circa 1873.   Fleming, who had an engineering degree, had become an assistant county surveyor for Co. Down  by 1900 and special assistant county surveyor by 1907.  The 1911 census records him as living in Downpatrick, with his wife, Florence, and one-year-old son.  He remained in the same position until at least 1915, having applied unsuccessfully for the county surveyorship of North Co. Mayo in March 1911.(1)   By 1918 he had been appointed town surveyor of Bangor, Co. Down, a position which he held until 1939 or later.
