Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect and engineer, of Co. Limerick, active from 1904 or earlier(1) until 1922 or later. According to his 1911 census return, Francis Hartigan, was born in Co. Limerick in 1863 or 1864 and held a BE degree from Queen's University, Galway.   He became district engineer for Rathkeale and in 1915 was appointed an assistant county surveyor for Co. Limerick ,(2) a post which he still held in 1922.(3) From circa 1904 until circa 1907 he was responsible for designing several extremely plain and basic Carnegie Libraries in Co. Limerick.  At the time of the 1911 census he had been married for eleven years to his wife, Rita, described on the return as 'C Engineer's and archts copyist', and had a son and a daughter.
