Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

County surveyor for Co. Londonderry, 1834-1860. Stewart Gordon was appointed to the Co. Londonderry surveyorship in May 1834(1) and held it until his death in June 1860.(2) As surveyor to the Irish Society he made a valuation of the houses in Magherafelt, Co. Derry, in 1853 and prepared various designs for buildings on the Society's estates in the county.(3) He died on 17 June 1860(4) to be succeeded by RICHARD WILLIAMSON. RICHARD WILLIAMSON. (5)

Nature: New castellated mansion for Robert Ogilby. Interior still unfinished in 1853. Attribution to SG suggested by Rowan, on basis of fact that style is identical to Gordon's adds. to prison at Derry.
