HADFIELD, GEORGE #
- Born: 1763 Died: 1826
English architect who emigrated to the United States in 1795, for biography of whom see Howard Colvin, A Biographical dictionary of British architects 1600-1840 (3rd edn., 1995), 443-444, and Macmillan Encyclopedia of Architects. In Ireland he is said to have designed a house called Som(m)erville in Co. Offaly for the Curtis family,(1) presumably some time between 1784, when he became a pupil of JAMES WYATT , and his departure for the United States in 1795.(2)

(2) He possibly met the Curtises when he was in Italy on a Royal Academy travelling scholarship in 1790-91.
