Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect and builder, probably of Limerick, who designed the bridewells at Ennistymon and Tulla, Co. Clare, and was responsible for alterations to Ennis court house, 1825, and minor works at Ennis gaol, 1826.(1)   He is probably the Michael Fitzgerald who worked on several Church of Ireland churches in Cos. Limerick, Tipperary and Offaly, carrying out minor works at Kildimo, Co. Limerick, in 1813 and 1814,(2)supplying the plans for Ballymackey, Co. Tipperary, (1817),(3) and Dunkerrin, Co. Offaly (1817),(4) and building Modreeney, Co. Tipperary (1826).(5)  A 'Michael Fitz-Gerald, Architect' voted for John Prendergast Vereker in the Limerick parliamentary election of 1817.(6)   In 1843 a Mr Fitzgerald, 'architect', won the contract for rebuilding the court house at Rathkeale, Co. Limerick.(7)
