Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Building and quantity surveyor of Belfast. Acheson Ferguson, son of Andrew Ferguson, was born in Belfast on 26 December 1849. He started his career with the Belfast building firm Fitzpatrick Bros, of which he eventually became managing director. In 1896 he set up in practice as a building and quantity surveyor, acting as surveyor for many important works including the Purdysburn Mental Hospital, the Scottish Provident Buildings in Belfast, and the Silent Valley reservoir scheme. He did much court work as an expert witness. He was active in the Surveyors' Institution, serving as chairman of the Northern Ireland branch and representing the quantity surveyors' section on the London Committee for several years.

Ferguson died at the age of eighty-nine on 8 March 1938. He married Mary, daughter of Alexander Patterson of Glenavy, circa 1879,(1) and was survived by his son ROBERT FERGUSON. ROBERT FERGUSON.
